When should I use a soft hockey puck or a lighter puck?
-
Hockey pucks don’t always need to be as heavy and hard as the rumors suggest. For younger players or for those who want to practice blocking shots, a soft or light puck is the best option. Here we explain which puck is most suitable for different purposes.
Hockey puck weight for different ages
Up to U10 (generally players under 10 years old) use a blue light puck, which is lighter, weighing only 120–135 grams. From U11 (generally players over 11 years old), players use black pucks weighing 156–170 grams.Light pucks are always blue and weigh only 125 grams. Since they are the same size as regular pucks, young players can start practicing with a full-size puck without it feeling too heavy.
